The beginning is always a good place to start so let us begin by talking about the origins of Deepwood.

Many names will "get dropped" in discussing the likes of Deepwood and all the elements and circumstances that produced it.  You simply cannot discuss Deepwood without mentioning two locations, Nevada, Missouri and Marceline, Missouri.  These two towns - while hours and a couple hundred miles apart - are closely linked by the friends and musicians that are a part of or helped to foster the development of Deepwood.

The members of Deepwood have played in a variety of bands.  In the Nevada area there was THE END,  R.O.K.,  LEXXUS, and THE TOUCH.  In Springfield, there was BRUTALLY FRANK.   In Marceline there was HOODLUM.   In Columbia, there was MUNDANE, WAYWARD SOULS, HOOSIER DADDY, and AVERAGE 9.

Average 9 became Deepwood in October of 2001.  After performing in the Kansas City, Independence, Columbia, and Lawrence-Baldwin City, KS areas for over 5 years and even opening for Canadian techno/industrial rockers, Econoline Crush, change finally caught up with the band.  Bassist Steve White began pursuing a career in the recording industry and decided to take a less visible role with the band.   To fill the void, Brad immediately jumped on the bass and AV 9 continued to play for several months in this fashion.  With Steve's departure, it was felt that this time woudl be a good time to make an even larger change - a name change was in order.  Thom was ecstatic - and wondered if Lucious Clay might make an appearance. Enter...Deepwood.

After wrapping up preliminary recording for *t*b*a in the summer of 2001, the band decided to draw a line in history and begin anew with the moniker of Deepwood.  (Consequently, if you'd like a copy of the songs on *t*b*a*, let Thom know and he'll see what he can do for you.)  The first gig under the new name was on  October 27, 2001.  The band will played its first set as AV 9 and finished the evening with a new attitude and a new name - DEEPWOOD.  Perhaps you were one of the 7 people in attendance to witness this remarkable transition.  ;-)

Suddenly in October of 2002 while recording the long awaited Deepwood debut, DORSA'S REVENGE, the band learned that guitarist, Rob would be moving to Branson to pursue an opportunity working in the entertainment industry.  While acknowledging the impact this would have on the band, Rob said he was determined to continue to play. Lo and behold, around this same time, Steve White re-entered the fold.

DEEPWOOD worked hard and long on DORSA'S REVENGE (the first as DEEPWOOD) during 2002-2003. Steve White and Soundhaven Studios of KCMO really came to task with this project. During the Summer of 2003 Steve started work with another band closer to home and DEEPWOOD once again became a four-piece, which means, we had to play louder I think... As of 2005 - we find that we are nearly intact and mostly in touch - all 5 of us. The itch to play is back and who knows what the future holds?

Does anybody remember laughter???

If you are interested in our music and would like to purchase a CD, please send us an e-mail by clicking on  Contact Us or come see us live and we'll hook you up.  The AV 9 cd UNDERNEATH was available at Streetside Records.  Supplies of this cd were to a minimum and at this point we are not planning a second run of the recording.  I counted one cd in the store a couple months ago and believe it has finally disappeared as of October 2002.
